Here we are, three days away! As much as I love the golf outing in the fall because it is the charity’s primary “earner,” the bowling tournament is easily my favorite. Our tournament is a traditional team, doubles and singles event at it’s finest. Yes, the payout is only 80% because 20% goes to the charity, but it’s still a cash competition.
Dano and I loved bowling in these types of tournaments together, so I know he would be just as excited as I am if he were here. I mean, what else would we be doing on a cold weekend in early March? Any bowler knows that during the winter, when it’s cold and dreary, and it gets dark early, it’s easy to go stir-crazy. But, you can always hit the lanes. League night always gives you something to look forward to. And if you are lucky, there might be a good tournament, with good people, and good drinks being held over the weekend.
Many of you probably met Dano or came to know him through the sport of bowling. For him, like most of us, leagues and tournaments are about more than just the sport of bowling. They are about being social, getting out of the house, having a few laughs, and throwing the rock. So, that’s how we built this tournament, to be more of a social event than anything, but to keep the competitiveness alive in the setup.
So remember, this weekend is about enjoying yourself and the people around you. We hope to see some high scores. In true Dano spirit, hopefully the Lizzi boys don’t put that “damn pro shot out there!” That was always Dano’s excuse when he couldn’t score! Ha! Let’s go “off the sheet” for the pops this weekend!
