Why I love the bowling tournament, and Dano would have, too…

Here we are, three days away! As much as I love the golf outing in the fall because it is the charity’s primary “earner,” the bowling tournament is easily my favorite. Our tournament is a traditional team, doubles and singles event at it’s finest. Yes, the payout is only 80% because 20% goes to the charity, but it’s still a cash competition.

Dano and I loved bowling in these types of tournaments together, so I know he would be just as excited as I am if he were here. I mean, what else would we be doing on a cold weekend in early March? Any bowler knows that during the winter, when it’s cold and dreary, and it gets dark early, it’s easy to go stir-crazy. But, you can always hit the lanes. League night always gives you something to look forward to. And if you are lucky, there might be a good tournament, with good people, and good drinks being held over the weekend.

Many of you probably met Dano or came to know him through the sport of bowling. For him, like most of us, leagues and tournaments are about more than just the sport of bowling. They are about being social, getting out of the house, having a few laughs, and throwing the rock. So, that’s how we built this tournament, to be more of a social event than anything, but to keep the competitiveness alive in the setup.

So remember, this weekend is about enjoying yourself and the people around you. We hope to see some high scores. In true Dano spirit, hopefully the Lizzi boys don’t put that “damn pro shot out there!” That was always Dano’s excuse when he couldn’t score! Ha! Let’s go “off the sheet” for the pops this weekend!

The New Year ahead!

Another year is in the books and we had two very successful events in 2014 – the 2nd Annual Dano Memorial bowling tournament and the 3rd Annual Dano Memorial golf scramble! With your help, we raised over $10,000 this year from those two events – and we are looking forward to paying it forward. The Dano Memorial Fund is awarding 2 scholarships  each to graduating seniors at Perkins, Sandusky, St. Mary’s, Huron and Femont Ross! If you know a student who would like to apply for a scholarship, have them contact their individual school’s guidance office for an application or email me directly at Jarrett.Lang@gmail.com. See the fund’s past winners here!

We now have scheduled dates for our 2015 events!

  • The 3rd Annual Dano Memorial Bowling tournament is being held at Star Lanes in Sandusky, OH on Saturday, March 7 (Team Event) and Sunday, March 8 (Doubles and Singles)
  • The 4th Annual Dano Memorial Golf outing is being held on Saturday, September 12 at Woussickett Golf Club in Sandusky, OH

For more information on either event, just contact me via email.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the charity events in 2015!

Weather this weekend?

The weather forecast for Saturday is calling for potential rain, and a drop in temperature. We DO NOT have a rain date scheduled and we will do everything it takes to get the tournament in this Saturday! Please be prepared for wet and/or soggy conditions and the potential for cooler weather! If we need to have a rain delay in the morning or at some point throughout the day, we will! Just figure, as long as it is not down-pouring and as long as we do not have lightning, we WILL play!
